Let’s learn how to measure the distance along a straight line between two points
on a map using a scale.
1. Place the edge of a piece of paper between the two points to be measured (A and B in Figure 6).
2. Mark the position of points A and B on the edge of paper (see Figure 7).
3. Now place the edge of the paper and measure the distance between A and B on the scale line.
If the distance between A and B is longer than the scale line in Figure 7, mark the end of the
scale line on the edge of the paper. Then use the scale line to complete the distance to B.
